But what should you be looking for? Which types of Peanuts toys are the most valuable? Are certain Snoopy figurines worth more than others? Answer all these questions and more with our helpful guide to collecting Peanuts.

History of Peanuts Comics

When Charles M. Schulz first began writing and illustrating in 1950, he had no idea just how popular his sketches would become. The strip was published as a daily comic in seven newspapers: The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, The Denver Post, The Seattle Times, The Minneapolis Star, Evening Chronicle, and Globe-Times. The first panels starred Charlie Brown, Shermy, and Patty and were drawn and produced entirely by Schulz—and it remained that way for nearly 50 years of his career, even as demand increased and the cast of characters grew.

The ‘60s is considered the “golden age” for Peanuts comics. In this period, some of the most beloved characters, themes, and jokes appeared, including Snoopy as the “World War One Flying Ace” on top of the doghouse, the rough-around-the-edges Peppermint Patty, and the adorable bird companion, Woodstock. Peanuts remained the top funnies strip through the ‘80s and ‘90s, with Schulz announcing his official retirement on December 14th, 1999—a statement which was, in true fashion, announced through the January 3rd, 2000 Sunday strip. With over 17,897 strips published in total, Peanuts is often considered the most influential comic of all time!

Why is Peanuts So Popular?

With deeply philosophical, psychological, and sociological overtones, each story told through Peanuts was more radical than you’d think. The comics focus on a social circle of young people that exists in a world where adults are rarely seen or heard (and when they are, all we hear is the sound of a muted trombone). This gave Charles Schulz a unique opportunity to show the world’s issues through a child’s perspective.

Thanks to Charlie and his friends, phrases like “good grief,” “you blockhead,” and “I got a rock” have become normal things to throw out in conversation and are typically met with a good chuckle. When you add in the dry humor, iconic circular heads, and loveable characters, it’s easy to see why it remained popular for so long!

Get to Know Some Peanuts Characters

If you aren’t familiar with Peanuts, think again! With a unique character design, iconic color schemes, and one very cool beagle, Peanuts is one of the most recognizable comic strips of all time. The most popular Peanuts merchandise include characters such as:

  • Charlie Brown: sensitive, loyal, determined, and, of course, the main character

  • Snoopy: an avid reader, writer, collector of fine art, and coolest beagle on the block (has two alter egos—Flying Ace and Joe Cool)

  • Woodstock: bird of unknown origins, not a great flyer, best friend to Snoopy

  • Peppermint Patty: outspoken, a natural athlete, and above all else, a thinker

  • Linus van Pelt: thoughtful, respectful, a student of philosophy—and carrier of a security blanket, of course

  • Lucy van Pelt: while some call her bossy and crabby, others call her strong, confident, and great at giving advice

  • Sally Brown: Charlie’s younger sister is filled with questions that must be answered and is desperately in love with Linus

  • Pigpen: kind, respectful, and confident—and proud of this personal dust cloud

  • Schroeder: moody and musical, this piano-playing friend can be found riffing on the keys

Charlie Brown Holiday Specials

Even if you didn’t grow up reading the comic strips, you’ve probably seen the Charlie Brown holiday specials. When you shop for Peanuts merchandise, you’ll find holiday-inspired pieces to help you decorate for Christmas, Halloween, and beyond.

  • It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

  • A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

  • A Charlie Brown Christmas

  • A Charlie Brown Valentine

  • You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown

Is Peanuts Merchandise Valuable?

While some collectors are driven by childhood nostalgia and a love of the comic strip, others are in it for the money. Depending on the type of Peanuts merchandise, the value can range from a couple of bucks to a couple hundred—even a few thousand, if you’re lucky! If you find one at your local antique mall, it’s worth doing a little more research on the year of production and inspecting the quality to see if you can turn a profit down the road.

Is Peanuts Merchandise Less Valuable Once Autographed?

Ah, autographs—the age-old debate for collectors of all special interests. The truth of autographs affecting value is that it really depends on the collector. Some say a signature ruins the value, but those more interested in the sentimental aspects of Peanuts merchandise will pay a pretty penny to add it to their collection.

If you prefer autographed Peanuts memorabilia—you’re in luck! Charles Schulz was known to add his signature to certain drafts, drawings, animation cells, Snoopy figurines, first-edition books, and other fun Peanuts merchandise. As you hunt in Indiana antique malls and online auctions, make sure that each autograph is authenticated before blowing your budget on the item!

Keep an Eye Out for These Types of Peanuts Merchandise

Lucky for you, Melbourne antique malls are filled to the brim with Snoopy merchandise, Peanuts toys, and more! As you stroll down the well-stocked aisles, make sure to look in each nook and cranny for these fun types of collectible items:

Vintage Peanuts Comic Strips

Peanuts collectible patriotic fliers

Though Snoopy figurines and Peanuts toys will always be popular, the most sought-after type of Peanuts merchandise will always be original comic strips drawn by Charles Schulz himself. These short and quick-witted comics are the very heart of why people love the characters so much, and many would spend thousands to own their very own piece of that history.

When you shop for Peanuts merchandise at an Algonquin antique store, you can come across a comic in a few ways. Some collectors prefer to cut out the comic strip and have it framed, preventing it from aging and damage. Other strips can be found within the original comic book or newspaper section. It’s always worth asking our staff if they know which booths may have these worthwhile finds!

Snoopy Clothing and Accessories

Snoopy merchandise is so popular that it should be its own category—especially when you consider just how many Snoopy designs are produced in every fashion cycle. Countless brands are leaning into consumer nostalgia and adding Snoopy illustrations to any item of clothing you can think of, from graphic t-shirts to sweatsuits to baseball hats and more.

Vintage Peanuts doll, tote bag, and other collectibles

If you want to stick to more vintage brands for your Snoopy clothing collection, you’ll have great luck shopping at secondhand stores and Highland antique malls. If you’re okay with more modern styles, keep a look out for partnerships with trendy companies. Some current favorites include the Parks Project Peanuts collab, Samii Ryan designs, and retailers like Target and Walmart. As new Snoopy clothing is released each year, your collection will only grow!

Vintage Peanuts Toys

While there are certainly plenty of modern Snoopy character toys on the market, like the ever-so-quirky Funko Pops, the real hidden gems lie in the vintage designs. The value of Peanuts toys can vary depending on rarity, quality, condition, and manufacturing year. This can include anything from adorable hand puppets to collectible McDonald’s Happy Meal sets to model diecast airplanes and beyond.

Whether or not you actually let you or your kids play with the Peanuts toys is another debate entirely. If you care more about the condition and long-term value of your Peanuts merchandise, then you should consider keeping your finds in their original packaging and finding safe storage methods to protect them from wear and tear. But, if you prioritize actually using your Snoopy character toys and bringing out your inner child, you should play with them the way they were meant to be played with!

Peanuts Home Décor and Kitchenware

Peanuts will always have a place in our hearts—and our home décor! While these items may be less valuable monetarily, they add a worthwhile and personal touch to any room of the house! As you browse your nearest Florida vendor mall, make sure you keep a lookout for any wall art, kitchen accessories, door signs, blankets, and more.

Cute and Collectible Snoopy Figurines

Snoopy is a beloved character for Peanuts collectible figurine lovers—as Snoopy figures are available in all sizes and price points! Snoopy figurines can depict the dog sitting on top of his little red house, posed as his famous alter egos or dressed up for various holiday celebrations. If you like to show off your love of Peanuts merchandise, displaying Snoopy figurines around the house is a great way to do so.

Antique mall vendors will put their most festive Snoopy figurines and Peanuts toys out on display in the weeks leading up to each holiday. Peanuts Christmas Ornaments

Christmas is one of the biggest holidays for Peanuts merchandise collectors. Bring your love of the eclectic bunch of kids and Snoopy to your Christmas tree with your own assortment of collectible ornaments. Hallmark is one of the most reliable brands to look for, as they’ve been releasing Peanuts keepsake ornaments since 1977.

Where to Find Peanuts and Snoopy Merchandise

Love the idea of starting your own collection of Snoopy clothing or Peanuts toys? Then you better learn where to shop! While plenty of collectors find luck on online auction sites or specialized forums, the best way to shop for vintage Peanuts merchandise will always be in person. That’s why we recommend you stop by an antique mall or themed vendor event near you!

With hundreds of vendors working hard to update and rotate their stock, your next collectible is just waiting to be discovered. If you don’t have time to walk up and down each aisle and search yourself, you can always call ahead and ask if we have the kinds of Peanuts merchandise you’re looking for.

How to Authenticate Peanuts Merchandise

As the old saying goes, imitation is the highest form of flattery—but that doesn’t mean it can be sold for the same price. Every type of Charlie Brown collectible, from Snoopy figurines to Peanuts toys and beyond, is worth more when it’s an officially licensed product. As you shop, it’s important to understand just how many counterfeit items are flooding the market—and how to catch them.

When you find a piece of Snoopy merchandise, check for official logos and licensing marks to verify it came from a reputable manufacturer. This can include the official Peanuts logo or one of the many brands they partner with. Then, look closer at the quality, condition, and coloring of each piece—if something feels off, trust your gut!

Vintage Peanuts mugs

Investing in Peanuts merchandise can feel overwhelming when first starting out. If you’re ever unsure if a Snoopy figurine is the real deal, contact a professional or consult one of many collector’s guides for a good frame of reference.

The original Peanuts comics may have ended, but the characters will live forever in our hearts, homes, and personal collections. If you’re interested in collecting rare Snoopy figurines or gifting your kids beloved Peanuts toys, why wait? Visit us at America’s Antique Mall and get started today!
